About the Author:Liza Segleau has been a social worker for over 20 years. Born in New York and raised in Costa Rica, she learned about the struggle of those who did not have. She volunteered among those in need and learned from their wisdom and input. Over the years she became a strong advocate for those with disabilities especially wheelchair users. To her surprise, in later years, Liza also has ended up with her own difficulties walking and now finds herself as a fulltime user of a power wheelchair. She is currently undiagnosed, but keeps herself active, healthy, positive, and rolling.
Liza is also bilingual and will make sure that there is information in Spanish for those in need of information and support. One of the reasons this site was born, was because there was a lot of sites and info on manual wheelchairs. There have been a ton of trailblazers on the matter. Liza has learned a ton from all these people who have posted information on wheelchairs, skills, advocacy, their lives and so much more. But there was so little information from users perspective regarding power wheelchairs.
It is true that most skills needed for a manual wheelchair are also needed for a power wheelchair, but not all. There are some differences. That is what this site is about, to address those needs regarding power wheelchairs and sprinkle the site with info on manual wheelchair too. Don't get us wrong, manual wheelchairs are just as important. The people who use them, look like they are doing an elegant dance with their chairs. However, power wheelchairs are a bit different when it comes to repairs, cost, cleaning and handling. Walk with us as we go through those needs and life adventures! **For each of the main pages, there will be a subpage of the same or similar information for the Spanish speaking. ** |
We will address all these aspects and more mostly through YouTube and this site. Liza will personally record needed topics. Guests will also be included as the process goes on. If you are a YouTuber yourself and have the same passion, feel free to contact Liza and assist with the process. If you have a topic or issue you want address, please let us know!
